Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu and The Amazon

Day 1: Landing in Lima City Airport

Upon arrival at the Lima City Airport, a bucket list destinations representative will meet you and Transfer to the hotel in Miraflores district and Overnight stay in Lima.

Day 2: Leaving For Cusco City

Breakfast at the hotel, pick up and transfer to the airport to get your domestic flight to Cusco City. Travelling from Lima to Cusco you will have gone from sea level to the heady heights of 11,500 feet. To give you the chance to acclimatize, the first day is free for relaxation. But if you're up for a bit of exploring, the city center is pedestrian-friendly and full of fascinating sites, colors and people. We're happy to recommend the city's best options for delicious dining and exciting shopping. Overnight in Cusco City Hotel.

Day 3: Half Day Cusco City Tour

Breakfast at the hotel, pick up from the hotel and during your tour of Cusco, the capital of the Incan Empire, you will visit Sacsayhuaman, an immense Incan complex with impressive stonework; Koricancha, one of the most important Incan temples (the walls were once actually coated in gold!), live folklore show to appreciate the different dances of the different regions of the city of Cusco, Dinner and transfer to the hotel, overnight in Cusco City Hotel.

Day 4: Machu Picchu

After breakfast, you will be taken to Ollantaytambo train station to get the train to Machu Picchu, the hidden Inca citadel. This hour-and-a-half to two-hour train journey is one of the most scenic in the world, winding through mountain, river valleys, high jungle and mystical cloud forests. Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu, you will be met at the train station and accompanied to the bus station for a 20-minute ride up to the citadel. Next, you will meet your expert, English-speaking guide for a tour of the most important sites in Machu Picchu, including the Intihuatana (Sun Stone), the Sun Temple, and the Room of 3 Windows. Plus, you’ll be able to marvel at lush mountains that mystically conceal the ruins. In the late afternoon, you will take a comfortable train back to Cusco and then be transferred to your Cusco hotel for the evening. Dinner and overnight in Cusco City.

Day 5: Leaving For Iquitos City

Breakfast at the hotel, pick up and transfer to the airport to get our flight to Iquitos City, arrival in Iquitos City airport, transfer to your hotel in Iquitos, Check in and free day at your leisure, overnight in Iquitos City Hotel.

Day 6: Leaving For The Amazon Sinchicuy Lodge

Breakfast at the hotel, pick up and transfer to the Amazon Sinchicuy Lodge, we will head to the river wharf from where the trip to our lodge begins. Sail on the Amazon, the world’s greatest river, onboard comfortable and safe boats. During the trip you will be able to see a marvelous panorama in which the magnificence of the Amazon makes its way through the exuberance of the jungle, where picturesque villages with their particular color and joy appear on the shores of the river. Visit the Fundo Pedrito, populated place located in Barrio Florido. Here we can see different species of flora and fauna. In this place where you can appreciate the paiche, the largest fish in the Amazon. Also a breeding of lizards and piranhas are waiting for you. Arrival in the Amazonas Sinchicuy Lodge (18 Miles NE from Iquitos). Our native-style built lodge is surrounded by trees, plants and flowers, a true tropical garden where birds and butterflies are abundant. While your expert naturalist guide explains about the lodge facilities and the activities to come, our staff will serve you with a refreshing “welcome drink” made with regional exotic fruit (camu-camu, cocona, copoazu, other) and brief instructions about the sustained conservation standards that must be observed in the lodge and its surroundings in order to make your tour best enjoyable. Room assignment according to reservation. Lunch. Food specialty products in the Amazonas Sinchicuy include fruits from the river and the field. Filets of regional fish garnished with Cocona Sauce (Sissiliflorum), fresh palm hearts, beans, fried cassava and banana are a treat. Do not doubt in asking the chef for the recipe! ECOCULTURAL Circuit (The Sinchicuy Watershed Ecosystem) Short walk or canoe ride in the afternoon – depending on the season- to “Nuevo Peru” where a Yagua community has established. The Yaguas are one of the most ancient ethnic groups of the Amazon rainforest, discovered by Francisco de Orellana on his first Amazon River exploration. Visiting these friendly people will let you know their customs see their unique apparel made of palm fibers and even try their “pucuna” or blowgun. Your guide will invite you to participate in the “Plant a Tree” Project in the area of reforestation. You will proceed with an ethnobotanic walk on a trail where you will be able to identify some species of the plant kingdom (Cat’s Claw, Sour Cane, Copaiba, Aguaje and even Ayahuasca, the hallucinogen vine). Tour the Santa María del Ojeal farmlands where you will see an artisanal sugar cane squeeze and fruit orchard, walk around a typical village on the shores of the Amazon. You may interact with villagers as you pass by their typical houses, schools, churches and shops; you will also see the community’s sustained development projects that are possible by ecotourism support. Returning to the Lodge you will delight on the sight of a beautiful Amazon sunset. Evening excursion at indicated time, evening canoe ride or walk to sense the jungle after dark. Return to the lodge. After enjoying a delightful meal, the guide will amuse you with tales and legends from the rich Amazon myths. Also, if you desire, our personnel will share with you a time for music and singing. Overnight. (Lunch and Dinner Included).

Day 7: Amazon Sinchicuy Lodge, Full Day Yanayacu River and Kingdom of the giant trees 

Birdwatching: During morning early hours (between 5 and 6) is the most appropriate time to observe many of the bird species that feed on the riverbanks or in the local produce plantations nearby. Breakfast. Fresh fruit juices and jam from the local produce (orange, melon, cocona) along hot meals and beverages to start the day. After breakfast you will board the boat that will take you to the opposite side of the Amazon River or “huashalado” as it is locally known. FLORA AND FAUNA Program (The Yanayacu Watershed Ecosystem) Full day exploring the primary jungle reserve in the Yanayacu River ecosystem. Navigation in open boats on the Amazon River to spot pink dolphins, main characters of fantastic tales and legends told by the river people. Arrival in the Huashalado Village from where you will make a short walk to the Yanayacu River, where another boat will be waiting to take you in this excursion. You will enter the “Kingdom of the Giant Trees”, which has been given this name because of the size reached by some specimens amongst them the “lupuna” or ceiba. This is a favorite site for birds since it is in the river they find the fish and fruit that grows on its edges; even more, the thick forest offers ideal possibilities for nestling. With a bit of luck, you could also, spot monkeys moving on the tree tops or maybe a sloth hanging from a branch and thus monetizing and making it almost impossible to be seen. We will stop for lunch and rest. Navigation along the Yanayacu River observing the birds on the way to the “Trapiche” local naturist who will explain about the particularities of the regional flora and its applications. Also, you will see the artisanal sugar cane squeeze. Arrival in the Amazonas Sinchicuy Lodge. If you wish, there will be an evening canoe ride or if you decide not to you could comfortably sway on a hammock or enjoy an exotic drink at the “Clavohuasca Bar”. After enjoying a delightful meal, the guide will amuse you with tales and legends from the rich Amazon myths. Also, if you desire, our personnel will share with you a time for music and singing. Overnight. (Breakfast, lunch and dinner included).

Day 8: Amazon Sinchicuy Lodge and Fundo Neiser

Breakfast with fruit juices and jams produced in the region (papaya, orange, melon, cocona). After your breakfast you will have the chance to do native-style fishing of piranhas and other species. Visit the Wildlife Project, recently called as Fundo Custody Centre Neisser to observe some of the varieties of wild animals such as sloth bears, monkeys, achunis, macaws, toucans, boas and lizards. It will be an interesting way to learn to appreciate and respect wildlife typical of our Amazonia. Return to the lodge. Lunch. In the afternoon, canoeing will take place in the Quebrada de Sinchicuy, depending on the season you can reach the town of San Juan de Sinchicuy (Growing Season). On the way you will see birds and other wild animals in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge for dinner.

Day 9: Amazon Sinchicuy Lodge, Butterfly Farm, Iquitos City

Breakfast. Visit the "Morphosapi" Butterfly Farm in the Community of San Rafael, where we will observe, with the help of an expert guide, the wonderful world of butterflies whose striking living specimens will surprise you. It is necessary to mention that this place is managed by a Family Association of the same Community with the support of IIAP (Research Institute of the Peruvian Amazon). Return to the lodge. Lunch. Return to Iquitos by the Amazon River, transfer to your hotel in Iquitos and free evening at your leisure, dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Leaving For Lima City

Breakfast at the hotel, free morning at your leisure, at the right time, pick up and transfer to the aiport to get your flight to Lima City, arrival in Lima City airport and farewell (Lima City Tour) optional on request.
